The Energy Lab 2.0 of the Helmholtz Association deals with the numerous questions of the energy transition. The real laboratory at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) researches technologies that should help to make the energy system of the future green and sustainable.
In order to obtain essential answers, intelligent links between different energy generation, storage and conversion options need to be researched. In addition to considering the electricity sector based on green energy sources, one focus of the Energy Lab 2.0 is on the synthesis of CO2-neutral chemical energy sources such as the so-called e-fuels according to the "Power-toX" approach. Together with other companies, KIT is working within the framework of the BMBF-funded Kopernikus project “P2X” on a solution to produce synthetic fuels from renewable energies, which can then be transported and used for mobility. The Mehrer Compression GmbH will also contribute to this in the future with your hydrogen and synthesis gas compressors.
If you visit the Energy Lab 2.0 system network at KIT, you are immediately stabbed mehrere container catches the eye. These containers contain technologies that hold the key to success for the P “X revolution. Together they will form a power-to-fuel process chain. In the production of CO2-neutral liquid fuels using this process chain, our compressors are used to compress hydrogen or the so-called synthesis gas (mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen) in order to bring these gases to the required pressure for fuel synthesis or intermediate storage in a tank. The process chain in the real laboratory Energy Lab 2.0 is once more than 200L fuel raw products per day from the CO2 of air and renewable electricity.
We are very proud that we are part of this prestigious project with our compressors and that we are able to advance the innovative strength in Germany and thus make the energy transition more tangible.
