The produced gas in biogas plants is already similar to natural gas, but the raw gas contains undesirable high amounts of carbon dioxide, which is separated after production. In many existing plants for biogas production and purification the CO₂ is released into the atmosphere. In order to compensate the global increase of CO₂ in the atmosphere, CO₂ is increasingly recovered from biomass or directly drawn from the air (direct air capture) for industrial use.

For further use, the CO₂ extracted during biogas treatment is first compressed for storage and reliquefaction. The captured CO₂ is made storable by a two-stage oil-free reciprocating compressor.

The CO₂ is supplied to applications such as the carbonation of beverages, the production of e-fuels or the supply of greenhouses to accelerate plant growth.
