The CARIX® process for drinking water treatment is a special ion exchange process in which water softening is achieved with special resins. The loaded resins are generated with CO2, and thus without chemicals.
The municipality of Weingarten relied on the CARIX® process to reduce the hardness of the drinking water for the population and chose for the heart of the plant three compressors from Mehrer Compression GmbH. These are two reciprocating compressors of the TZW 70 series and one reciprocating compressor of the TEW 90 series. With the use of the CARIX® procedure, the nitrate concentration was reduced from 53 mg/l to approx. 32 mg/l and the water hardness was reduced from 24 dH (German degree of hardness) to 13 dH.
