To operate a fuel cell truck fleet in a surface mine, the green hydrogen obtained from alkaline electrolysis must be stored. The produced hydrogen is compressed in two processes to a final pressure of approx. 350 bara. With a three-stage compression in the first application case the atmospheric inlet pressure level is occured to a storage pressure of 31 bara for post-compression. The combination of water vapor saturated hydrogen and a high volume flow range was a particular challenge. Up to 850 kg of green hydrogen can be stored in one day using the compressor solution.
