The production of certain plastics requires the gas propene. This is often delivered to the processing site by rail. Due to the overpressure in the rail tank car, the gas flows into the stationary tank at the production site until the residual pressure in the car equals that of the tank.
As soon as the pressure equalization has taken place, the gas is diverted to the Mehrer compressor, which compresses the propene, creating an overpressure in the supply line, which further fills the tank. Due to the constantly decreasing pressure in the tank car, it is important that the compressor can cope with this variable suction pressure.
In this case, the number of tank wagons required can be reduced and thus also the CO2 emissions and the additional costs that these would entail.
